so my buddy johnny and i got booths at the community art and funk festival this past weekend downtown at ye olde marcus center for the performing arts and it was quite the fun but labor intensive experience. oy! there is a lot of prep work and hauling involved in an art festival. but it was worth it because i felt like we were able to network with a lot of really cool people and got our work seen by a lot of eyes that otherwise would not have seen it. it was a pretty nice day and there was funk music and tie dye t-shirts and pulled pork sandwiches ta' boot. my tent did get upturned by the wind (hurricane irene hittin' the east coast and all) but thankfully fell shy of the fountain and super duper thankfully did not knock down or break any of my ceramic work in the process. thanks to the cooperative spirit of all the tent catchers and crap haulers that made this event a success. also thanks to the merciful judges who bestowed me with the third place ribbon which warmed the cockles of my heart cuz i have been working really hard on my art and its nice to get a smidge of recognition if u know what i'm sayin. so i'm looking at this foto, and i see that picture of those melons there, and i have two melons like that right now sitting on my kitchen floor, but it's like a whole year since i painted that, yet it's such a familiar scene indeed. except now i think i have a cantaloupe instead of a honeydew. summer melons. gotta love em.
