a couple weekends ago i went to greenville, sc to visit my parents and also had the pleasure of seeing a kick ass art show - artisphere. it was greenville in all its glory. in addtion to hundreds of talented visual artists from all over the country (including may from Wisconsin) there were ariel artists and musical artists. There was a chalk artist working along the riverwalk, a a live glass blowing demonstration, and lots of additional open galleries. There were scores of great little restaurants lining the streets in addtion to numerous tasty smelling food booths. it was the fair's seventh anniverasy, but i would have guessed it had been going on for much longer. i had a nice chance to stop in and visit with cate and guy stevens who run a studio/ shop a long the riverwalk. guy's work is so upbeat and positive that it always makes me smile just to walk in there. i also had the chance to visit the greenville art museum that boasts an incrdible andrew whyeth watercolor collection and many other impressive works as well. there was a watercolor show up of mary whyet's work in the main gallery- portratits of the working south. appropo for my visit indeed.
